Ghanaian actor and director Fiifi Coleman is set to stage a theatrical revival of the classic story I Told You So at the National Theatre of Ghana in March 2026.

The production will run from March 5 to March 8, with multiple shows scheduled over the four-day period. Organisers say the play is expected to attract large audiences due to its cultural relevance and the star-studded cast.

The stage adaptation traces its roots to Ghana’s concert party tradition and later evolved into a film in 1970 directed by Egbert Adjesu. The film became a landmark in Ghanaian cinema, celebrated for its humour, satire and strong social commentary. The original story was inspired by the works of legendary dramatist Bob Cole and remains one of the most influential Ghanaian narratives.

The upcoming production is being mounted by Fiifi Coleman Productions in collaboration with the National Theatre. It seeks to reconnect audiences with Ghanaian cultural values while promoting local theatre and storytelling.

The play tells the story of Kobina Jones, a man who returns home after years abroad in search of love, identity and family. However, he encounters unexpected realities that challenge his expectations about relationships, culture and responsibility. The themes explored include love and marriage, family expectations, tradition and modernity, social responsibility and morality.

The production features a mix of veteran and contemporary performers, including highlife legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, veteran actor Fred Amugi, comedian Clemento Suarez, actor Clement Bonney, Ken Fiati, Wofa Kay and Deaconess Abokomah.

Veteran filmmaker Kwaw Ansah, who worked as a set designer on the original film, is also associated with the project and attended the media launch.

The production will blend drama, comedy and music, with Ambolley expected to bring a strong musical element to the performance. Organisers describe the play as both entertainment and cultural preservation, aimed at celebrating Ghanaian identity and values.
