The Bono East Regional Fire Command has organised a one-day fire safety workshop for 42 fuel station managers from Techiman and surrounding areas, aiming to improve safety measures and reduce fire risks within the petroleum distribution sector.
Led by Regional Fire Officer (RFO), ACFOII Rev Naomi Ofori-Adubea Sarpong, the initiative emphasised raising awareness about potential hazards and implementing best practices for fire prevention at fuel stations.
Key topics covered included the dangers of cooking on-site, safety protocols for fuel tankers, and the importance of renewing fire certificates annually.

Participants were strongly advised against cooking at fuel stations due to the high volatility of fuel, which significantly increases the risk of explosions.
Regarding tanker safety, the RFO highlighted that fuel tankers should remain idle for at least one hour after arrival before discharging fuel.
She also stressed the need for fuel stations to equip themselves with firefighting tools and first aid kits, and to ensure trained personnel or firefighters are available during discharge operations.

An interactive open forum was held, allowing participants to engage directly with fire officers, ask questions, and seek clarifications on fire safety issues.
The forum also underscored the significance of routine inspections by certified fire safety experts and strict compliance with regulatory protocols.
This workshop is part of the Ghana National Fire Service’s broader strategy to reduce fire incidents, enhance public safety, and protect properties in high-risk environments across the region.
