A five-year-old girl has been swept away by flood waters at Moshie Zongo in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
Tuesday’s downpour flooded several areas in the region, destroying many properties.
The one-hour heavy rain killed the 5-year-old while she sought shelter after closing from school.
The rains caused a bridge in the area to overflow, flooding the area.
According to sources, the girl was swept away by the rapid running water in her attempt to cross a broken bridge at Moshie Zongo.
Residents mounted a search, only to find her body miles away. The incident has left the entire community in a state of mourning.
This is the first incident recorded as a result of flooding in the month of September.
At least 8 people have died due to floods in the Ashanti region this year.
