A former National Nasara Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal Deen Abdulai is confident the party will retain the Nanton Parliamentary seat come December 2020.
According to Mr. Abdulai, the aim of all the contestants seeking to represent the NPP at the primaries in Nanton is to retain the seat for the NPP. Already two contestants have filed their nomination forms to contest the April 25 primaries in the Nanton constituency.
The Nanton parliamentary seat is currently been held by the NPP’s Muhammed Hardi Tuferu after he defeated the former Deputy Minister for Trade Ibrahim Mutala Mohammed, who contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
Addressing supporters of the NPP in Nanton after filling his nomination forms, Kamal Deen pledged his commitment to conducting a clean campaign geared at rallying the people of Nanton for the December polls. He described the primaries as a family contest that must not involve aspirants fighting among themselves.
He said his message would resonate with the delegates, making him confident of a win. He thanked the chiefs and people of Nanton for their support and urged the delegates to vote massively for him.
The constituency secretary Abdulai Mutada while receiving the forms on behalf of the party said Mr. Kamal Deen is the second person to file to contest the Nanton seat.
Meanwhile, 22 people have filed their nomination forms to contest in the nine constituencies in the Northern Region.
Bimbila, Savelugu, and Kpandai have their incumbent MPs going unopposed while Saboba has four contestants, Wulensi has two aspirants, Nanton has two aspirants, Gushegu has three aspirants and Tolon has five.
