For Gift Obunukwu, that journey has evolved into a focused pursuit of innovation in agricultural biotechnology, where science meets the urgent need for sustainable food systems.

In a virtual interview with MyJoyOnline, Gift offered a thoughtful reflection on her academic and professional path, revealing a career built on both technical depth and practical relevance.

Her training began with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Imo State University, followed by a Master’s degree in Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology from the University of Ibadan. These formative years established her grounding in microbial systems, molecular techniques, and applied research.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Agricultural Science (Biotechnology) at Tennessee State University, Gift’s research centers on plant–microbe interactions, with particular emphasis on how beneficial microorganisms can be applied to improve crop health and productivity. Her work involves studying bacterial endophytes and their role in controlling plant diseases while enhancing growth under both greenhouse and field conditions.

Gift’s profile also reflects a commitment to knowledge sharing and scientific collaboration. She has contributed to peer-reviewed research, supported student training in laboratory environments, and participated in scientific evaluation roles, demonstrating both leadership and mentorship.
