Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah says there are ongoing negotiations between the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Delta Airlines to replace the aircraft servicing the Accra route.
This follows numerous complaints from Ghanaian travellers, with many citing concerns over the airline's service quality and dilapidated planes.
Appearing before Parliament on Tuesday, February 20, Mr Asiamah explained that GCAA has already banned the airlines from operating aircraft number N-195DN in Ghana.
"The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has authorized Delta Airlines to operate two different types of long-range aircraft, the Boeing 767 and Airbus 8350.
"Delta's Boeing 767-300 using the Accra route was questioned when their flight diverted back to Accra in 2022 due to a technical problem which was adjudged by GCAA as reoccurring on that route.
"Subsequently, that particular aircraft was banned by GCAA from being used on that route."

In response to MPs’ concerns regarding the substandard services provided by the airline, the Minister stressed that the ongoing negotiations aimed at persuading the airline to replace some aircraft operating along the route.
"In line with the industry's procedure and practices, GCAA officially protested to Delta Airlines with a formal report on the 14th of January 2023. Subsequently, several meetings have been held with Delta Airlines both in New York and in Accra.
"These meetings between GCAA and Delta Airlines aim at compelling the airline to heed to the other types of aircraft approval by GCAA to replace the Boeing 767-300," he added.
