The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has revealed that Ghana has been declared the No.1 tourism destination in West Africa, by the World Economic Forum.
He made this revelation in an interview with Prince Tsegah on Usay Weytin on Hitz FM.
“For your information, at the moment, when it comes to tourism, Ghana has become No.1 in West Africa,” Mr. Okraku-Mantey said.
He also disclosed that the initial target was to achieve that milestone by the next four years.
“We as a country wanted to be No.1 by 2026 in terms of West-African tourism,” he said.
Be that as it may, the Deputy Minister added that this achievement presents a new challenge to the ministry – as they are now focused on “working hard to make Ghana the No.1 tourism destination in Africa.”
As part of achieving the new target, he urged the public to reason with the ministry by supporting events organized by foreigners here in Ghana.
He also advised the public to highlight more of the positives when local and international events are hosted in the country.
Through that, foreigners will be attracted to host more events in Ghana, which will go a long way to create jobs for Ghanaians – as the Global Citizen Festival did.
