The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has expressed optimism that Ghana would make history by electing Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as the first female Vice President in December.
He said that it was imperative for the electorates, especially females, to make this manifest so as to serve as an inspiration for the younger female generation.
Addressing NDC enthusiasts in the Juapong community of North Tongu in the Volta Region, Mr. Mahama said that women have dominated both the public and private sectors, but are yet to occupy the office of President and Vice President.
“History is about to be made because for the first time, the chance that Ghana is going to elect historically the first woman as Vice President is just right before us on 7th December and it must be an inspiration to all our women, to all our mothers, to all our sisters, to all our daughters, that women can also aspire to the highest offices of the land”, he said.
He further said that Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang is capable of performing sterlingly well as his partner to lead the next government of Ghana.
Mr. Mahama chronicled that his Running Mate delivered exceedingly when she served as the Minister of Education during his administration by ensuring all basic school learners have access to the four core textbooks and also with the supervision of the implementation of the E-Block project among others.
He recounted that she was the first female to be appointed as a Vice Chancellor of a public university in Ghana.
“And so, she comes to the position on her merit, and I know that on the 7th of December history is going to be made in this country. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is going to be elected the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana”, Mr. Mahama concluded.
