Ghana and Zambia have signed a bilateral air services agreement that will allow for direct flights between the two countries, a development expected to enhance trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
President John Dramani Mahama announced the agreement while addressing the Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue in Lusaka on Friday, February 6, 2026, describing it as a major step towards improving connectivity and lowering the cost of travel and commerce between the two nations.
“Partnership in execution will determine our success. I am encouraged by the agreements we have signed during this state visit, which include the visa waiver that will allow citizens of the two countries to travel visa-free in either country, and the bilateral air services that will allow direct flights between Zambia and Ghana,” the President said.
He explained that the agreements would significantly enhance mobility and make it easier for goods, capital and people to move between Ghana and Zambia.
“All these will improve connectivity between our people, reduce transport cost, and facilitate the movement of goods and capital between our countries,” President Mahama added.
The air services agreement forms part of broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is also expected to open up new opportunities for businesses, investors and tourism operators by making travel faster, cheaper and more convenient.
The Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue was held as part of President Mahama’s three-day state visit to Zambia, which is focused on expanding trade, investment and private sector collaboration between the two countries.
