On Wednesday, 28th January 2026, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Sabah Zita Benson, formally presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Charles III at St James’s Palace.

The ceremony symbolised the continuation of strong diplomatic relations between Ghana and the UK.

Her Excellency Benson’s appointment is historic, as she becomes Ghana’s first female High Commissioner to the UK since the country gained independence in 1957.

Her presentation at St James’s Palace marks a major milestone for both Ghanaian diplomacy and gender representation in international postings.

The occasion was particularly notable because she is the first Ghanaian High Commissioner to be received by the British monarch at St James’s Palace since 1910, during the reign of King Edward VII.

This underscores the long-standing and evolving relationship between the two nations.

In her remarks, Her Excellency Benson highlighted her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, promoting trade, cultural exchange, and cooperation in areas of mutual interest between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

She also expressed her pride in representing Ghana as the first woman to hold this prestigious diplomatic post.

Ghanaian officials and supporters extended their congratulations to Her Excellency Benson on her acceptance into the Court of St James’s, describing the appointment as a landmark achievement and a source of national pride.

The event reinforces Ghana’s commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening its global diplomatic presence.
