The government has reiterated its dedication to expanding Ghana’s economy through the agricultural sector, highlighting the establishment of an agribusiness division within the Ministry of Trade and Industry as a key step.
Speaking at the 2026 Ghana Tree Crop Excellence Awards in Accra on Friday, February 20, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari said recent legislative reforms signal a new chapter for agribusiness in the country.
She cited the signing of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law as a pivotal move to stimulate industry growth and job creation.
“This renaissance lies largely in our commitment to agriculture, to improving on agric, to investing in agric, to marketing agric, to adding value to agric,” she said.
“The reset will not only be in our economy or for citizens but also by creating industry and creating jobs. A few days ago, the President signed into law the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill. This act we hope will become the main tool for industry and sectors such as yours to create opportunities for the citizenry.”
The awards ceremony also recognised individuals and organisations for their contributions to Ghana’s tree crop sector.
Honourees included former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and current Minister Eric Opoku, who were celebrated for their efforts in advancing value addition and growth within the industry.
Through these initiatives, the government aims to strengthen the entire agribusiness ecosystem, fostering innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable development across Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
