Budding broadcast journalist with Hitz 103.9 FM, Nathaniel Nii Amoo Otoo, has been crowned the Overall Best Journalism Student at the 2025 congregation of the University of Media, Arts and Communication, UniMAC.
He graduated with a Final Grade Point Average of 3.83.
Nathaniel, affectionately called “Nathaniel PhD Hopeful,” has built an impressive profile over his years of study. He served as a long term intern at Hitz FM for more than a year and a half and currently hosts Hitz Campus Connect, a youth centred programme that highlights student innovation, leadership and campus issues across the country.
Before joining Hitz FM, Nathaniel volunteered at Radio GIJ, UniMAC GIJ’s campus radio station, for three years. He held key leadership roles including Morning Show Host, Head of News and Head of Editing, which helped shape his grounding in broadcast journalism and newsroom management.
His academic performance earned him a Lebanese Government Scholarship in Level 200, making him one of the beneficiaries of the scheme that supports outstanding journalism students.
Nathaniel has also gained strong field experience beyond the studio. He has more than 70 stories published under his byline on MyJoyOnline, one of Ghana’s leading digital news platforms, reflecting his commitment to impactful storytelling and credible journalism.
As he prepares for national service, he is set to continue his journey with the Multimedia Group, where he hopes to sharpen his professional skills while pursuing further studies. He has already secured sponsorship to begin a Master’s degree in Development Communication early next year, with the long term ambition of attaining a doctorate.
Nathaniel received a GHS 10,000 cash prize sponsored by Melcom in memory of the company’s late chairman, Mr Bhagwan Khubchandani.
His achievement marks another milestone in his fast rising career and positions him as one of the promising young talents shaping Ghana’s media landscape.
