Former president John Agyekum Kufuor has commended the achievements of president Akufo-Addo’s government, which he describes as unexpected.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is working tirelessly to deliver on all promises made during the 2016 campaign.

Mr Kufour stated that although perfection is impossible, the party has achieved a lot to qualify them as ‘saints’.

“I believe in just a period of about three and a half years, they’ve shown vision, they’ve displayed strategy.

“Initially, even some of us said they were promising too much for a four-year term in office but within three and half years see what they have done,” he said.

The former president was speaking at an acclamation ceremony for the presidential candidate of the party, President Akufo-Addo together with his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by the party’s National Council at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

He advised the public to desist from pettiness which will hinder further developments in the country as “this leadership does not just talk, they do the work”.

The event was attended by members of the National Council of the NPP, some Members of Parliament, and the chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

On his part, president Nana Akufo-Addo said members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) must be proud of his achievements since he assumed office in 2017.

He said considering the terrible economy his government inherited, work done so far is laudable.

The president added that although Ghana has not attained where it ought to be, consistent persistence by a competent and visionary leader will actualise the various sustainable goals for the country.

“Despite the abysmal state in which we found the economy of Ghana in 2017, we can be proud in what we have been able to achieve in the past 3 and half years.”

“We have demonstrated beyond any shadow of doubt, our competence in the management of the national economy. Since without competence we cannot improve on the welfare of citizens,” he said.

Citing some of the NPP flagship programmes being implemented, the President said the Free SHS policy has made the second cycle school equally accessible by all, adding that it has relieved several households the financial burden.
