Celebrated Ghanaian broadcaster and event host, Anita Erskine has encouraged more women to enter into the field of emceeing.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, she said there is currently a high demand for women MCs.
“I urge a lot of women as well to pursue careers in emceeing. There are a lot of clients these days who are looking for women MCs,” she said.
Anita also advised up and coming MCs to hone their craft by taking feedback and working on their weaknesses.
Touching on the conversation about the need to incorporate humour into emceeing, she cautioned MCs who are not naturally funny to stay away from telling jokes while executing their tasks.
According to Anita, even though humour could be a plus for engagement purposes it is not a pre-requisite for becoming an MC.
“I think that being humorous is overrated if you don’t know the joke and how it applies to the people in the room. So the first thing I tell people is, please don’t try to over-entertain,” she noted.

Highlighting the traits of a good event MC, Anita added that one has to understand what protocol means; protocol in terms of treating people, talking to people, exciting people, assuring people and bringing people to a very respectful and calm beginning.
“When you start an event, you as an MC has to be in control of yourself in order to take control of the room,” she added.
Anita Erskine has hosted a lot of high profile events both locally and internationally and runs her communications consultancy, Anita Erskine Media.
