The Inspector-General of Police of the Ghana Police Service, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has charged officers to confront criminals without fear, favour, or hesitation.
Speaking on Thursday, December 4, shortly after the President handed over 40 new armoured vehicles to the Service, the IGP stressed the need for absolute focus and resolve in tackling crime.
He underscored that when necessary, officers must apply the full force of the law and warned that suspects who refuse to surrender should be dealt with decisively.
“As the president has paid a visit to us, he is just going to sit and watch to see whether the police are going to deliver. The president will not like to see that any civilian or any Ghanaian is going about his normal duties and being attacked by any group of armed robbers. Those robbers, wherever they are, because they feel that they have the weapons that we have, so they can attack us, they should stop, or their lives will be miserable. They should stop, they should surrender their arms, or their lives will be miserable,” he declared.
“When you go in, you go in fully. When you are chasing the armed robber, chase him fully. If you are dealing with armed robbers, deal with them hopelessly,” Mr Yohuno added.
He reminded officers that the newly supplied resources come with heightened responsibility and called for professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to protecting the public. He also extended thanks to the Executive arm of government for the retooling.
The armoured vehicles are expected to strengthen the Service’s operational capacity, particularly in high-risk areas, as it ramps up efforts to safeguard peace and security across the country.
