The former National Chairman and aspiring presidential candidate for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, says he will not delay in the selection of his running mate if he is confirmed as the party's presidential candidate.
In a conversation on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning on July 8, the flagbearer hopeful said unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he will announce his running mate a week after his confirmation.
“I have vested interest in becoming the president of Ghana and will be choosing and announcing my running mate exactly a week after the party confirms me as the presidential candidate, and that is my promise to you,” he said.
This, he said makes him concerned about flagbearers and running mates of the other political divide particularly the NPP and NDC.
He stressed that each of candidate must possess the ability to improve the country’s economic situation.
Mr Mornah said this assures him even if he loses the election, the country will be run by very competent individuals.
“I’m interested in the personalities. In the unpalatable situation where I don’t become president, one of them should be able to transform our economy for the good.”
Analysing which pair was best to steer the affairs of the country, he argued that the NPP running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly called Napo, although was 'solid’ in opposition, he tends to be ‘arrogant’ in power.
The NPP finally announced the running mate of its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on July 4, after several months of deliberations within the party executives.
This comes after the National Council of the party unanimously approved the nomination of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to Dr Bawumia for the 2024 presidential election.
