The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence Committee is not moved by the Interior Minister’s comment on the purported plot to replace the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Tuesday, Mr James Agalga said the assurances from the Minister following the release of the purported secret recording is not enough.
“I mean to merely give us the assurance that government is satisfied with the performance of the IGP does not address the issues raised in the audio at all,” he told Evans Mensah.
This, he explains is due to the complexity of the allegation in the purported secret recording.
“We are talking about people who are plotting to achieve a certain goal and that goal is to topple the current IGP so that whoever replaces him can do the bidding of government in order to perpetuate their continuous stay in power.
“What that simply means is that regardless of the outcome of the election, we are going to see the abuse of the country’s security apparatus, with the view to manipulating figures for the benefit of the government – that is a very serious revelation which must be dealt with,” he stressed.
Mr Agalga wants the matter probed and the culprits found and dealt with accordingly.

The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery has denied the claims in the purported audio saying there are no plans to remove the IGP.
According to him, the IGP has been exceptional in the delivery of his duties and there are no efforts to take him out of office.

His comment follows a supposed leaked secret tape revealing a plot to replace the IGP as part of a grand strategy by the governing party to rig election 2024.
The tape does not identify any person by name, but the people involved supposedly include a top police officer and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
