The Jospong Group of Companies has partnered government to support farmers in the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Phase II programme.
This collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency of farming operations by providing essential agricultural machinery for rent, allowing farmers the opportunity to access the tools necessary for their farming activities.
Speaking to journalists on the margins of the Agrifest 2023, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Siaw Agyepong expressed the shared vision of the Jospong Group and the government in ensuring the success of PFJ II.
"Our goal is to equip farmers with the necessary tools to ensure our farmers are able to farm all year round," he remarked.
The Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II programme, a pivotal component of the government's broader agricultural strategy, aims to boost local food production, enhance food security, and empower farmers across the country.
Highlighting the importance of private-sector collaboration, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta who was also present at the agriculture festival underscored the role of the Jospong Group in complementing government efforts.
"One of the things the government is doing to rejuvenate our economy is onboard private sector partnerships. And in the past, the Jospong Group has shown that they can be very good partners. By partnering with them, we are actively looking for ways we can increase our agricultural productivity as a country," he added.
Agrifest 2023
In conjunction with these developments, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture organised Agrifest 2023, a five-day agriculture festival held within the Ministries enclave.
This event, leading up to the National Farmers Day on December 1, 2023, serves as a platform to showcase diverse agricultural produce and equipment. The festival, inaugurated by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, features the participation of 145 companies and organisations displaying plant seedlings, farm produce, livestock, cocoa products, and various agricultural equipment, including tractors, weeding, and irrigation equipment
