A team of health personnel from the Eastern Regional Health Directorate has begun taking samples of police officers at the Koforidua District Police Command following the death of the station officer, a Chief Inspector from Covid-19.

The exercise is to screen colleague police officers who came into contact with the deceased.

Civilians and some staff at the Police Clinic who came into contact with the officer are all being screened.

The 55-year-old station officer died on Friday, May, 29 at the Eastern Regional Hospital where he was on admission.

The cause of death was not immediately known until sample results reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

Records from the Regional Health Directorate confirm three positive cases of COVID-19 in the New Juaben South Municipality, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the region to 128.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service has confirmed 113 more cases of Covid-19 across the country as of Sunday morning.

The update brings the country’s tally to 7,881 since it was last updated on Saturday evening.
