A Madina District Magistrate Court has fined a landlady ¢2,400 following indiscriminate littering by her two tenants.
The 62-year-old Hawa Mohammed is landlady to the two ladies who in a viral video, were seen disposing refuse at an unauthorised location.
The act was decried by many including social media activists. Some vowed to ensure that they were punished by the law.
In a Facebook post, one Christian Thompson announced that he had visited the residence of the two deviants “with a CID officer to invite them to the Madina Police.”
But the two ladies are currently on the run.
The court has issued a bench warrant for their arrest, the Prosecutor, Lambert Kwara, has revealed.
According to Mr Kwara, the La-Nkwatanang-Madina Municipal Assembly will liaise with the Madina Divisional Police Command, to bring the fugitives to justice.
In a related development, the Chief Executive Officer of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has told Joy News that at least 400 sanitation related cases have been dealt with by the courts this year.
According to Mr Adjei Sowah, his administration inherited the existing sanitation challenge but it is working assiduously to address it.
The AMA boss’ comments come on the back of recent floods in the city which have been blamed on indiscriminate littering and unsanitary condition in the city.
However, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly is determined to reverse the trend by enforcing its by-laws on indiscriminate littering.
