The Ghana Police Service's Northern Regional Special Operations Team has arrested 11 suspects, including a 17-year-old, in a crackdown on internet fraud and drug peddling in the region.

The operation, led by C/Inspr Abu Issahaku on 30 March 2026, targeted suspects in Yung and Wamale and resulted in the seizure of laptops, mobile phones, and suspected Indian hemp.
A statement signed by the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Luckman, said
"Eleven suspects were arrested, including nine believed to be involved in internet fraud."
The statement said suspects, all Nigerian nationals, were found with nine laptops, 11 mobile phones, and three SIM cards, which are believed to have been used in illicit activities.
"The retrieved exhibits are believed to have been used in internet fraud and drug-related activities," the police said.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The police have not released further details on the nature of the internet fraud but emphasise their commitment to combating cybercrime in the region.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to tackle organised crime in Ghana.
