Earlier this week, some 29 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) demanded the immediate removal of the Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Freddie Blay, and the acting Chief Executive Officer, Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah.
The CSOs, made up of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC), and 26 others, said the two men have “become a threat to Ghana’s interest in the petroleum sector”.
Reacting to the issue, the Energy Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh accused the Board Chairman, Mr Blay of offering interest in Ghana’s oil fields to a South African oil company, Petroleum Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa (PetroSA).
However, Mr Blay has since described the call for his head and that of the Ag. CEO as unfortunate and denied any wrongdoing in offering interest in Ghana’s oil fields to PetroSA.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has described government’s flagship Free SHS Senior High School (SHS) programme as poorly targeted.
According to the report, the Free SHS programme “which covers the full cost of secondary education, has helped increase enrollment but is poorly targeted.”
But the government has since responded and said that steps are being taken to review all flagship programmes as part of its objectives to strengthen fiscal policy.
The host Samson Lardy Anyenini and his panelist discussed the above on Newsfile. Watch the discussion below.
