Rev. Daniel Annan, Resident Pastor of the Universal Gospel Center, has said that love in marriage extends beyond sexual intimacy and must be expressed through affection, communication, and intentional care.
He made the remarks on The Relationship Show on Joy Prime, hosted by Asieduwaa Akumia, while responding to a discussion about a woman who feels unseen in her marriage because her husband, though kind and supportive, does not give her gifts on special occasions such as birthdays.
“Love is not solely about sex,” Rev. Annan said, adding that “there should be mutual understanding, perfect respect, and mutual love among couples.”
He stressed that effective communication is central to a healthy marriage, explaining that open discussions help partners understand each other’s opinions and grow together. “When couples communicate effectively, things become easier and smoother in the marriage,” he explained.
Rev. Annan also described affection as a vital element in marital relationships, particularly for women. “What every woman needs is affection,” he said.
According to him, affection includes a husband’s presence, personal touch, deliberate affirmation, and gift giving. “That is the language of affection a woman understands,” he noted.
He explained that while affection may sometimes lead to sexual intimacy, it is not the defining measure of love.
“These expressions make the woman feel comfortable, give her a sense of belonging, and leave her satisfied knowing she has a husband who truly sees her,” Rev. Annan concluded.
