The Paramount Chief of the Ave-Dakpa Traditional Area in the Akatsi North District, Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V, has appealed to former President John Mahama to establish a Nursing Training College in Akatsi North when he assumes office.
Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe emphasised that the establishment of a nursing training college would not only create career opportunities for the youth in healthcare but also enhance the overall quality of health services available to the people of the district.
He noted that such an institution would be a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes for the local population.
Addressing the people of Ave-Dakpa, the chief expressed concern over the state of various development projects that were initiated under the NDC but have since been neglected by the current government.
He specifically mentioned the roads connecting Ave-Dakpa to Avevi-Akatsi and Ave-Afiadenyigba to Agormor-Akatsi, which were intended to be vital lifelines for the communities, facilitating movement and boosting economic activities.
These roads, however, have been left abandoned, hindering the district’s progress.
In the realm of education, Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V pointed out the stagnation of development at key institutions such as Ave Senior High School and Ave Technical Institute.
These schools, which are crucial for the future of the district’s youth, have not seen any significant improvements in recent years.
He appealed to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to prioritise the redevelopment of these institutions, ensuring that the children of Akatsi North receive a quality education in a conducive learning environment.
The chief also raised concerns about the rural electrification project that was initiated during the tenure of the late President Professor John Atta Mills but has since been left unfinished.
He urged Mr Mahama to complete this project when he returns to power, as it would greatly benefit the rural communities in the area.
During the event, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, assured the former president of overwhelming support from the constituency, promising to deliver over 95% of the votes in the upcoming elections.
In response, former President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to bringing development to the Volta Region, including Ave-Dakpa and the surrounding communities in Akatsi North.
He assured the chief that if elected, his government would prioritize the completion of the rural electrification project, which had been awarded to benefit 261 communities in Ave-Dakpa during his previous administration.
Mahama’s visit to Ave-Dakpa highlighted the NDC’s continued focus on addressing the needs of the Volta Region with promises of infrastructure development and improved public services if the party returns to power.
