President John Dramani Mahama has urged officers of the Ghana Police Service, to fully support their new leader, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and to continue their vital work in ensuring national security.
President John Mahama swore in Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), on Friday, March 14.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House, President Mahama recognised the dedication and sacrifices made by the men and women of the police service, acknowledging their crucial role as the backbone of the country's security infrastructure.

He praised their commitment to keeping the nation safe and assured them of the government’s continued support.
“To the brave men and women in the police service, I urge you to give your fullest cooperation to your new leader,” President Mahama said.
He further lauded the Ghana Police Service for its crucial role in maintaining national security, recognising the dedication and sacrifices of officers who work tirelessly to keep the country safe.
“You are the backbone of our national security framework, and your dedication and sacrifices keep our country safe,” he remarked.
President Mahama also reassured the police force that the government is committed to providing the necessary resources and training to support them in their duties.
He affirmed that reforms will be carried out to ensure that the police service is fully equipped to effectively tackle the challenges it faces.
“Know that the government is committed to providing you with the necessary resources, training, and carrying out the necessary reforms to enable you to carry out your duties effectively,” President Mahama stated.
President John Dramani Mahama relieved Dr George Akuffo Dampare of his duties as Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and appointed his deputy, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as his replacement.
The decision was announced in a press statement issued by the presidency on Thursday, March 13, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
