51-year-old man, Abugri Stone, is in the grips of the Savelugu Police for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.
According to JoyNews sources, on July 19, 2021, at about 19:30hrs, the victim's grandmother sent her to collect money from the suspect in his house. But after waiting for hours for her return, the grandmother who had become anxious decided to look for her granddaughter.
The source said upon reaching the house, the grandmother saw Abugri having sexual intercourse with the victim.
The matter was then reported to the Police for investigation.
When JoyNews contacted the Savelugu District Divisional Commander, Twumasi Ankrah, who confirmed the incident. He said, a Police medical form has been issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for treatment.
She has also been asked to report thereafter for further investigation. ASP Twumasi raised concerns over increased cases of rape and defilement in the area.
He said a young lady, who was raped two months ago, later died from the injuries she sustained during the act. ASP Twumasi added that just last week, another person was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for defilement.
He cautioned unscrupulous people, with such intent, to desist from the act since the Police is on the look out for them.
