The 44-year-old man who is alleged to have murdered his wife at Nyankyerenease in Kumasi has died.
According to the police, Kwame Maxwell had taken in some poisonous substance in an attempt to end his life when he was arrested.
He was subsequently rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), but his condition worsened, and he died while on admission on Thursday.
Reports of a pregnant woman in her early 30s being murdered by her husband went viral on Saturday.
The suspect is said to have killed Betty during a scuffle that ensued from suspected infidelity.
Tenants in the house where the incident happened said Kwame Maxwell stabbed his wife for accusing him of cheating.
An eyewitness, who introduced herself as the landlady, said she heard the deceased crying for help during the night before the incident.
According to her, she later saw the suspect with blood-stained hands coming out of his room, attempting to wipe it off.
The landlady added that Betty was lying unconscious in a pool of blood when she entered the couple’s room.
“I was awakened from sleep when I suddenly heard a woman [Betty] screaming for help. She was shouting, ‘he is killing me…come and help me.’
“Together with my son, we went out and realised that the scream was emanating from the room of the pregnant woman. But, unfortunately, all the lights in the room were off, so we could not see what was happening inside.
