MTN Ghana has announced a reduction in tariffs across all its products and services, aligning its pricing with recent changes to the country’s Value Added Tax (VAT) regime.
In a public notice issued to customers, the telecommunications giant said the tariff adjustments are in line with amendments to the VAT law, assuring subscribers that the reductions take immediate effect across its offerings.
The development follows sweeping reforms announced by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) after the passage of the Value Added Tax Act, 2025 (Act 1151), which takes effect from January 1, 2026.
Under the new law, the GRA has introduced measures aimed at simplifying VAT administration, improving compliance, and easing the tax burden on households and businesses.
Key among the reforms is the reduction of the VAT rate to 20 per cent, as well as the abolition of the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy, which was introduced during the pandemic.
The Authority has also increased the VAT registration threshold for businesses dealing in goods from GH¢200,000 to GH¢750,000, a move expected to exempt many small businesses from mandatory VAT registration.
Additionally, the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) levies have been re-coupled, allowing businesses to claim input tax credits, while the VAT Flat Rate Scheme has been abolished to create a more unified VAT system.
MTN Ghana’s decision to reduce tariffs reflects the impact of these tax reforms on pricing structures and operational costs.
The company says the move is intended to pass on the benefits of the VAT changes directly to consumers.
The GRA has urged all VAT-registered taxpayers and stakeholders, including employers, importers, exporters, accountants and tax consultants, to familiarise themselves with the new VAT framework ahead of full implementation.
It has also encouraged the public to seek clarification through Taxpayer Service Centres or official GRA communication channels.
MTN Ghana advised customers to visit its official website for further details on the revised tariffs, as it reaffirmed its commitment to delivering value and affordability in line with national fiscal policy changes.
