Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has expressed disappointment over the government's failure to implement plans to transform the Jomoro Constituency into a petrochemical hub.
According to the former President, the project was supposed to be part of the people's benefit from oil exploration in the area.
But the project which would have economically transformed the enclave is yet to be implemented after years of exploration.
According to Mr. Mahama, the previous NDC government left behind a blue print for a petrochemical hub to be built for the people of Jomoro.
The former President, who is hoping to stage a comeback into office, says the project will be prioritized if he is successful.
"It was in our time that the oil exploration started. In our plans, Ellembele was to be a gas enclave and Jomoro would be converted to a petrochemical hub. We couldn't implement it because we were voted out. We expected our brothers (NPP) to implement the plan after taking over. I was expecting to see the refinery and fertiliser production here after eight years,” Mr. Mahama said.
The "Building Ghana Tour" made a stop at Jaway Wharf in the Western Region. The tour was well received by the people of Jomoro where the former President first visited.
At the town hall meeting, poor road network in the constituency was an issue of concern among people who were given the opportunity to table their concerns.
They complained that roads to the area are riddled with potholes, while most part remain untarred.
In response, the flagbearer of the NDC indicated that there was a plan to draw money from the gas exploration to complete the roads.
But the policy has also been abandoned by the present government.
“We made plans to build gas enclave roads in these communities. We were to draw money from gas proceeds to build roads here. Ellembele have received their portion but Jomoro is yet to have their share. I will ensure that if we come into power GNPC who is in charge gives you your share”.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Toffey has financed the construction of a bridge to improve transportation at Metika.
The former President was at the community to commission the project.
