Minority Leader in parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to ensuring a thriving agriculture sector when voted to power.
Speaking on Nhyira FM's KuroYiMuNsem show, the legislator stated that the National Democratic Congress has better policies that are geared towards positive investments in the agricultural sector.
"We have a well-structured policy to improve the agricultural sector, which has collapsed under the watch of this government.
The next NDC government will invest in various agricultural products such as oil palm, poultry, and other local produce to reduce farmers' losses and increase production," he stated.
He stressed that Ghana's export was reliant on cocoa, oil, and gold; however, the country has lost that capacity as a result of the “incompetence” of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.
Dr. Ato Forson expressed concerns about the sharp decline in cocoa production under the current administration, describing the Chief Executive Officer of the COCOBOD as the most incompetent.
He stressed that an NDC government will dissolve the current board to save the cocoa sector.
"We were doing almost 1 million metric tons before leaving office in 2016. Today, we are struggling to do 400,000 metric tons. They have collapsed the cocoa industry. The current CEO is the most incompetent in the history of this country, and we will dissolve this board immediately when we come to the office and replace them with competent managers," Dr. Ato Forson said.
He further criticized the NPP government for collapsing the oil and gas sector, accusing the administration for failing to add a single oil field to the existing ones for their eight years in office.
According to him, the Public Interest and Accountability Committee has warned the country of an oil depletion in the next ten years.
"The oil and gas sector was doing well under the NDC government. Today, under President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia, the oil and gas sector has collapsed. In eight years, they could not drill a single oil stream to support the sector. PIAC has even said that there will be an oil shortage in the next 10 years because Nana Addo and Bawumia have added nothing to our oil sector," he stated.
The former deputy finance minister further indicated that many oil companies have left Ghana to invest in neighboring countries due to the high corruption in the sector and poor governance.
"Today, as we speak, the ENI OIL Company has moved from Ghana to Ivory Coast and invested $10 billion, which has increased the oil production of the African country, which will be more than Ghana. EXXON MOBIL ran away from Ghana because of corruption," Dr. Ato Forson said.
