This is the third time he has contested the primary against the incumbent MP, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, who has been the MP since 2008.
Mr Lukutor polled 597 votes as against Kobby Mensah's 562 votes, whereas the third contender Vivain Abla Kpeglo had just 4 votes.

Mr Lukutor is believed to have carried out a very intensive campaign which focused on engagement with delegates and community members about their concerns and how intends to solve them.
He held town hall meetings, door-to-door campaigns, and even organized a series of community service projects which made his message resonate with the people of South Tongu although this was only an internal election.
