The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has called for a re-run of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of failing to verify critical polling station results.
According to him, the EC’s inability to authenticate pink sheets from several key centres invalidates any claim to victory.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Sunday, 1 June, Mr Nukpenu insisted that the NDC would not recognise any results that could not be substantiated with original or scanned pink sheets. He challenged the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to present verifiable evidence to support their claims of winning the seat.
“Our position is simple. Since the Electoral Commission cannot authenticate pink sheets’ verified results, we also don’t have that. The NPP cannot produce a scanned pink sheet for us to use to verify,” he asserted.
Mr Nukpenu, who has played a leading role in the party’s activities in the region, further argued that the only credible solution was a fresh poll in the affected areas.
“Me, I’m a Regional Organiser—I have led that charge for long. My simple solution is that declare those polling stations null and void. Let’s go for a re-run,” he added.
The Ablekuma North seat has remained vacant since the start of the 9th Parliament in January 2025, due to an unresolved dispute over the December 2024 parliamentary results.
Both candidates—Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC and Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the NPP—have declared themselves winners.
However, the EC suspended the collation after disruptions at the centre and the emergence of unauthenticated results, creating a political deadlock.
