A team of NDC executives in the New Juaben North constituency has intercepted 24,000 bags of NPK-21 fertiliser at Koforidua in the Eastern region.
The products allegedly intended to be distributed to farmers were uncovered being offloaded in an abandoned church building following a tip-off.
A heated confrontation ensued between the transporters of the fertilizers, EV logistics and the party officials who alleged the items had been diverted for private gains.
The NDC parliamentary candidate for New Juaben North, Samuel Adongo told the media three officers from the Ministry Food And Agriculture who were present at the scene drove away in the ministry's branded pickup vehicle when he approached them in an attempt to confirm being recipients of the items.
According to Mr Adongo, even though the police have begun looking into the case, the party will ensure the fertilisers are kept under strict security until power is handed over to the next government.
Meanwhile, officials of EV logistics have declined comments on the matter.
