Italian Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni has pledged $25million to Ghana to be channeled into helping Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

He announced this in an interaction with the president, President Akufo-Addo during his two-day official visit to Ghana.

The gesture comes as a reaction to recent reports by CNN about underground slave trade going on in Libya.

Migrants from black African countries are being sold into slavery in Libya where they hoped to transit to Europe in search of greener pastures.

The Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway has, however, dismissed reports that some 168 Ghanaians were caught up in the unfortunate development.

A report from the Ministry Tuesday stated that reports of 168 Ghanaians arrested by the Libyan government had nothing to do with the slave trade.

She explained that the detainees had no valid travel documents and that they are being kept in detention centres pending their deportation to Ghana.

Both President Akufo-Addo and Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni have said that the migration menace will be discussed at the upcoming African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) summit in Ivory Coast.

The discussions, both leaders hope will put a stop to the illegal migration situation that is costing the lives of victims.
