The General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has dismissed all claims by individuals who abandoned the party that the party treated them unfairly.
Speaking to Evans Mensah on JoyFMs' Newsnight, Mr John Boadu said that as far the party is concerned, they have been fair to all persons who were not loyal and left the party.
“To the best of my knowledge, our internal forces are fair. I think we have been fair to a lot more of them.”
“If you look at the article that allows people to stand on the ticket of the party, we didn’t talk about the election of parliamentary candidates. We said it is the selection of parliamentary candidates.”
He said the party has followed the democratic processes in its right and as such should not be misinterpreted or judged by others as unfair.
“We are a party set out to win elections as well, if we do not have the right to decide on some of these things then we must have as well not been a party.”
His comments follow a notice issued by the New Patriotic Party revoking the membership of individuals in the party who have decided to stand as independent candidates in the parliamentary elections.
The party has also written to the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye to vacate the MP for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Asiamah from his seat in parliament citing Article 97 of the constitution.
Reason being, he has relinquished his seat after filing to contest as an independent candidate and not on the ticket of the party in the constituency.
According to Mr Boadu, he anticipates the return of these individuals as this has been the trend of some of its members.
“There are a lot more who after they agreed came around and also decided they want to remain loyal members of the party and they know that definitely, their time will come,” he said.
