The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the formation of an ad hoc Committee to oversee the conduct of aspiring presidential candidates, their campaign teams, and followers in the run-up to the party’s primaries.
The decision was taken after a meeting with the aspirants on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The party’s presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, on Monday, September 15, the Committee has been tasked with monitoring campaign activities to safeguard the integrity of the process.
The Committee will monitor the comments, actions, and behaviour of all aspirants and their supporters during the campaign and receive and review petitions related to hate speech, insults, and abusive language.
The committee will also recommend appropriate measures or sanctions, including disciplinary action where necessary, to protect the dignity and unity of the party.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang said the new mechanism was meant to ensure a fair, transparent and respectful campaign atmosphere that reflects the values and traditions of the NPP.
The membership of the Committee includes:
- Ing. Dr Kwasi Abeasi – Chairman
- Dr Alex Glover-Quartey – Member
- Mr Ato Hamilton – Member
- Mr Kwadwo Afari – Member
- Mr Mark Opoku – Secretary
The Council of Elders urged all aspirants, their campaign teams and supporters to fully cooperate with the Committee.
“The Party remains committed to conducting a peaceful, respectful, and dignified primary process that strengthens our unity and readiness for the national elections,” the statement added.
