Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has refuted claims by former Environment Minister, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, that the party is fragmented and lacks cohesion.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, in an interview, expressed disillusionment with the NPP, alleging that it has become fragmented and disunited, adding that his "real party" is not on the ballot paper for the upcoming 2024 election.
He stated, “The NPP is fragmented, disseminated, disunited, so there is no cohesion, and I really don’t feel that I am part of it because this is a party I love, and I have an emotional attachment to it.”
However, Mr. Mohammed, speaking on Joy FM’s Newsnight, dismissed these claims, asserting that the NPP remains robust and unified.
Responding directly to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s concerns, Mr. Mohammed said: “The party is stronger and bigger than any individual," adding that they have no intention to attack him as a person.
"What he said is not the truth. The party has a constitution that ensures fairness, provides opportunities for members to contest, and maintains order. He did not come out to contest, so I don’t know the evidence he has to claim disorder within the party.”
Mr. Mohammed said that the NPP is guided by the rule of law and has adhered to its constitutional principles, ensuring fairness and cohesion.
The Deputy General Secretary suggested that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s criticisms might stem from personal grievances with the government, not the party.
He urged the former minister to distinguish between issues he has with governance and the NPP’s internal structures.
“If he has issues with the government, he should talk about them honestly without conflating them with party rules or unity,” Mr. Mohammed added.
