The spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general election to the government’s overall performance rather than the personal appeal or character of its presidential candidate.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Wednesday, October 1, Dr Boako, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tano North, said Ghanaians had voted based on their assessment of the NPP’s stewardship rather than on the credibility of Dr Bawumia.
“We lost the election because of the NPP’s performance, not the personality of Dr Bawumia. He is a competent, trustworthy and selfless leader, but the electorate judged us collectively as a party in government,” he explained.
Dr Boako stressed that despite the defeat, Dr Bawumia’s qualities remained intact and he's respected by many Ghanaians.
He urged party supporters to remain united and reflective, adding that the lessons from the 2024 polls should shape the NPP’s reorganisation and strategy going forward.
