Glory beckons, and the desire to conquer and boast the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz Champions has meant that as many as 11 of Ghana’s regions have been made mere spectators from now as the competition boils to a close.
The Nine schools to wrestle for one of the three finals spots have been decided, thanks to exciting, often gruelling encounters heightened at the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Ashanti Region has three of the contenders, St. Louis SHS, Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College. The Greater Accra region has two: Achimota School and defending champions, PRESEC Legon.
The Central region also has two: Wesley Girls’ High School and Mfantsipim School, while the Volta and Eastern regions have a candidate each – Keta SHTS and Pope John SHS & Seminary respectively.
By the way, did you notice the schools still in the reckoning are all Ghana Education Service category-A-rated schools, as though to emphasize boxing legend ‘Professor’ Azumah Nelson’s famous: “Nobody is called professor for nothing” retort?
Azumah had just disciplined Jeff Fenech, the then-Australian sensation, in a Super Featherweight bout and when asked how he did it, his immediate response underscored the fact that he was no fluke, at all.
