They were expected to win the 11th contest of the Central Regional Qualifiers against Gyaase SHS, Mozano SHS, and the Academy of Christ the King.
However, no one anticipated their attempt to set a record with 83 points.
What began as a 'friendly match' between the four schools quickly turned into a fierce battle when Ghana National College decided to take it as a 'World Cup'.
They were wounded lions seeking prey to vent their frustration after being eliminated from last year’s national competition at the one-eighth stage by their rivals, St. Augustine’s College. And they found not just one, but three.

The ‘Nationales’ started the first round by putting every school on their knees, answering their questions correctly and picking up most of the bonuses from their counterparts.
They ended the round with 29 points, which was 7 points more than what Breman Asikuma used to defeat Holy Child in all four rounds in an earlier contest. That is how strong they were from the start.
GYAASE SHS: 0
MOZANO SHS: 5
ACADEMY OF CHRIST THE KING: 12
GHANA NATIONAL COLLEGE: 29
Round 2
Ghana National College established their dominance with a brilliant display in this round.
Guess what, they answered every single question correctly in the speed race except one which was attempted by Academy of Christ the King, who couldn’t get it right. Perhaps, if they had left it for the ‘Nationales,’ it would have been a clean sheet for them.

At the end of the second round, Ghana National College ended with a mouth-watering 60 points. 49 points clear second-placed Academy of Christ the King. None of the three other schools were able to pick a single point from this round.
GYAASE SHS: 0
MOZANO SHS: 4
ACADEMY OF CHRIST THE KING: 11
GHANA NATIONAL COLLEGE: 60
Round 3
At this point, there was no looking back for Ghana National College as they had a task to finish. They accrued 16 more points to end the round with 76 points. The Academy of Christ the King also gained an extra 14 points, increasing their tally to 25. Mozano SHS came third with 5 points, while Gyaase seized the opportunity to grab their first point of the contest.

In the fourth and final round, Ghana National College took their competition to the slaughter, metaphorically speaking. They accrued 7 more points, finishing with a total of 83 points, far ahead of the other schools.
This remains the highest points any school has ever gathered to qualify from the Central Region. Ghana National College earlier had 67 points from their competition, which according to them, was the highest in the Regional Qualifiers.

However, this record was broken by their rivals, Ghana National College, less than two hours after their competition.
Ghana National College warned that the so-called big schools should look out for them, as they are ready to atone for their sins from last year.
Swedru SHS, Edinaman SHS, and Adisadel College have all secured slots in their various contests.
