The Chief Executive Officer (CEO ) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has urged young people to aim for lasting impact rather than temporary influence in his address at the 2026 iYES Summit.
The four-day summit, themed “Transgenerational Impact,” seeks to equip youth with tools to create meaningful change across generations.
“Influence matters, but by itself it is not enough. It can change a moment, but impact changes a generation,” Mr Ayariga said.
He noted that young leaders must think in terms of legacy and sustainable contributions to society.
He added that societal change requires both courage and structured opportunities.
“Potential alone is not enough. Young people must be supported with mentorship, skills, and platforms that allow them to realise their ambitions,” he said.
Mr Ayariga also highlighted NYA initiatives designed to provide these opportunities, including the National Apprenticeship Programme and campaigns addressing social challenges such as drug abuse.
The summit brings together young leaders from governance, business, and creative industries to channel their energy into constructive activities that shape national progress.
