Chairman for the National Forum on Corruption Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has urged President Akufo-Addo to dismiss corrupt officials in his government.
His comment follows findings by the Caucus for Democratic Government which indicated that Ghana has lost about Gh₵ 6 billion to corruption in the past four years.
Speaking at the National Forum on Corruption which was held Monday in Accra, the Founding Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party said corruption has accounted for many loses in the country over the years.
However, the fight against it has been more of lip service.
Recounting past events, Dr Tamakloe stated that the canker has been the grounds on which various coups have been staged in the country in the past.
Thus, the findings by the caucus must serve as a wake-up call to President Akufo-Addo and his government to treat the canker with all the disdain it deserves.
He further dared the President to follow the example of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and others who were bold and defiant against corruption.
"Kwame Nkrumah dismissed three of his key leaders; Kojo Bostio, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Komla Gbedemah, the then Finance Minister and Krobo Adusei, then Minister of State Protocol for alleged corruption.
"I want it to happen in this country now. I challenge Akufo-Addo to do that now," he said.
