An okada rider has died in a hit-and-run crash involving a commercial bus, popularly known as ‘trotro’, at Tetegu on the Accra–Kasoa highway.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday when the speeding bus rammed into the motorcycle, which was carrying a passenger.
The impact killed the rider instantly, while the pillion passenger survived but sustained severe injuries. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the trotro sped off after the collision despite being aware of the casualties.
Police later conveyed the body of the deceased to the mortuary, while the injured passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The deceased, who operated his motorcycle transport business at Old Barrier along the Kasoa road, was described by colleagues as hard-working.
News of his sudden death has left fellow riders at Old Barrier in shock, as they mourn what they say was an avoidable tragedy caused by the recklessness of a hit-and-run driver.
