National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has pledged the party’s commitment to establishing a specialised children’s hospital if they win the December 2024 elections.
Speaking to students at the Goaso Nursing and Midwifery Training College, she outlined that the proposed hospital would address critical challenges faced by infants at birth and serve as a training hub for pediatric doctors and nurses.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the importance of improving healthcare for children in Ghana, emphasizing that the new facility would enhance the quality of care available to the youngest patients.
She believes that a dedicated children’s hospital would not only provide essential services but also contribute to the professional development of healthcare workers specializing in paediatrics.
In addition to discussing the children’s hospital, she addressed the ongoing issue of nurse migration from the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is committed to implementing policies aimed at retaining nurses within the healthcare system, ensuring that Ghana maintains a robust workforce to meet the needs of its citizens.
She urged the nursing students to support the NDC’s vision for the health sector and to endorse the party in the upcoming elections.
By doing so, she believes they can contribute to a transformative agenda that prioritizes the health and well-being of children and strengthens the overall healthcare system in Ghana.
“How did we arrive here as a country? I am creating awareness for you so you know why you must vote. We stand for development and you don’t develop anything if you don’t develop the people. Development should reflect in the abandoned project and equipment while retooling the health sector."
“As NDC, one of the things we plan to do going forward is to establish an ultra-modern children’s hospital that will take care of the health needs of infants.”
