The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have committed to share intelligence and resources as part of efforts to fight corruption in the country.
This was agreed upon during a working visit to the OSP on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, by the new Executive Director of EOCO, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.
Her visit was to strategize on how the two institutions could work together, and support each other to reduce corruption and crime in the country.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, noted that the visit was at the opportune time to allow both institutions to reconsider the OSP’s commitments to the former executive Director of EOCO in 2021.
Mr. Agyebeng said both institutions are burdened with the responsibility of making corruption unattractive in the country through prosecuting corrupt officials and confiscating assets obtained through illegal means.
This, he said if achieved will boost investor confidence in the country and rake in more revenue for the government.
“In all my interactions with the diplomatic community and corporate leaders, one thing keeps coming up. They leave Ghana with fond memories and nothing monumental because of corruption”, he said.
The Special Prosecutor told his EOCO counterpart that it was time for both institutions to collectively fight against corruption in the country to inspire confidence in investors.
Responding to the Special Prosecutor, COP Addo-Danquah assured of her full commitment to the pursuit of making corruption unattractive in the country.
She explained that her previous service on the OSP’s board of directors with one of her current deputies makes her no stranger to the aims and objectives of the OSP.
COP Addo-Danquah was accompanied by her two deputies and four (4) administrators. She was met by the Special Prosecutor and his deputy, Ms. Cynthia Lamptey.
