Parliament has commended the industrious farmers across the country for their immense contribution to nation-building as Ghana prepares to observe Farmers Day on Friday, December 5, which is a statutory public holiday.
In recognition of the celebration, the House announced that it will not sit on Friday, allowing Members of Parliament (MPs) and citizens alike to join in honouring the country's farmers.
Business statement
Presenting the business statement on the floor of Parliament on Friday for the seventh week ending Thursday, December 4, the Chairman of the Business Committee of Parliament and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, urged the various budget committees to actively engage civil society organisations (CSOs) in their deliberations on the budget estimates.
He stressed that CSOs’ input would enrich the ongoing budget estimates process and ensure inclusivity in national decision-making.
Mr Ayariga further disclosed that a total of 27 questions have been scheduled for ministers to respond to during the week, in addition to motions and other parliamentary business.
Farmers Day, instituted in 1985, continues to serve as a platform to celebrate the resilience and dedication of Ghana's farmers, whose efforts ensure food security, drive exports, and contribute significantly to the economy.
