The Kumawu District Police have arrested Kofi Dougan, a pharmacist at the Kumawu Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region, for allegedly assaulting a medical officer.
Dougan, who was detained overnight, had been granted bail after allegedly assaulting Dr Fred Twene Amankwaa at the Emergency Unit of the Hospital.
A source at the Kumawu Police Command said on February 15, 2026, Dr Amankwaa reported to the station and lodged an assault case against the pharmacist, Kofi Dougan.
Wearing a torn uniform and with bruises on his face, Dr Amankwaa said he was abused by Dougan when he visited the pharmacy to pick up a prescription on behalf of a patient.
He said being in-charge of the emergency unit, he attended to a patient on admission, but due to the seriousness of the case he decided to personally visit the pharmacy to pick the prescription.
The complainant said Dougan claimed he (Dr Amankwaa) had no business picking the prescription.
The source said that led to a misunderstanding between the two, during which
Dougan allegedly assaulted Dr Amankwaa, leaving him with a torn dress and bruises.
“The pharmacist, according to the complainant, was demanding outright payment for the services, contrary to management’s policy, even if the patient is not NHIS accredited, ” the source said.
During the incident, some staff members of the hospital intervened.
Dr Amankwaa was subsequently issued with a police medical report form while the suspect was arrested and detained.
Dougan confirmed the incident but denied assaulting Dr Amankwaa.
The Police are expected to put him before court after investigations.
