On Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, President Akufo-Addo held a meeting with the leadership of the National House of Chiefs and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to discuss the illegal mining menace.
During the discussion, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to putting his presidency on the line in the fight against 'galamsey' in the country. Meanwhile, he also appealled to the Chiefs, Metropolitan, Municipal and Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the country to take up lead roles in the fight against illegal mining.
This comes after Luv News uncovered an ongoing degradation of the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve at Samreboi in the Western Region despite the Lands Ministry’s declaration that no license has been issued for minerals prospecting in any forest reserve across the country.
With the 'galamsey' scandal depleting the reserves, JoyNews' The Probe offered a platform for the country's youth to comment on the situation.
