The Committee tasked to investigate an alleged plot to remove the IGP says it will allow witnesses to cross-examine each other if needed.
According to Chairman of the Committee, Samuel Atta Akyea, they (Committee members) will stop at nothing in their quest to unravel the truth in the controversial audio.
Speaking in an interview with Citi on Thursday, Mr Atta Atta Akyea said discharged witnesses will also be summoned if need be.

“When we evaluate the evidence and realize that there is a need to bring Bugri Naabu back, we will do so. Even now, we have a situation where someone is talking about an original tape. If there is an original tape, and it will enlarge the scope of the interrogation, we will get it, give it to everyone, and enlarge the scope of the interrogation. We don’t want to do a shoddy job. Cross-examination is possible.”

“When there are controversial issues, I am of the view that we have to call the parties back, and they need to talk to each other. And then we will listen to what X said and what Y said, and then we will come to our conclusion and recommendations,” he added.
The committee will continue interrogating the Director General of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, COP George Alex Mensah today, Friday, September 1.
COP Alex Mensah on Thursday, August 31, made a number of admissions before the Committee.
He said he is not pleased with the work of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo-Dampare..
“Honourable Chair, I will not deny that fact today, tomorrow or the next day, I will make that statement again, that the current Inspector General of Police is not managing the Police Service well.”
The lawyer cum Chartered Accountant said he has been lobbying to be made the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
He insisted that even though he has not been successful at that, he has not given up on that desire.

On July 25, the Speaker of Parliament named Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta-Akyea as the chairperson of a 7-member ad-hoc committee to probe the recently leaked controversial audio in which voices are heard clandestinely plotting to oust the Inspector General of Police.
The viral audio, which revealed a supposed conspiracy by a senior police officer and a leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare from office, resulted in a debate on the floor of Parliament with the Minority calling for a forensic audit.
Subsequently, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin proposed the setting up of the Special Committee.
Mr. Bagbin asked the committee to submit its report by September 10, 2023.
