The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly posing as a police officer during a public musical concert at Black Star Square in Accra.
The suspect, identified as Akoto Nelson, was picked up by officers from the National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Police say the man was spotted wearing a police uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was behaving suspiciously. A team of officers on duty approached and interrogated him, leading to his arrest.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted that he was not a police officer,” the Police Service said in a statement.
Further investigations revealed that Akoto impersonated an officer to gain free entry into the event, claiming he did not have money to pay the gate fee.
He also told the police that the uniform belonged to a deceased Chief Inspector identified as Gyasi, from whom he obtained the police accoutrements in 2022.
A search at his residence in Taifa-Ashaiman led to the discovery of several items, which were retrieved as exhibits.
These included a toy P99 pistol, a pepper spray, two ZTE mini handsets, a pepper spray pouch, a ZTE charger, a Xinfa cutter knife, some complimentary cards, a voter ID in the name of Akoto Nelson Elikem, and a birth certificate in the name of Nelson Akoto.
Preliminary investigations also established that the suspect works as a security guard and a messenger at a private company.
He is currently in police custody and will be put before the court.
